Asha for Education is a fully volunteer-run 501(c)(3) non-profit with 66 chapters around the world whose mission is to catalyze socio-economic change in India through the education of underprivileged children. Asha’s focus on children’s education has galvanised a number of volunteers across the globe. Today, there are 66 Asha chapters worldwide: 46 in the US, 12 in India, and 7 in Europe and 1 in Canada. Volunteers in each of these chapters take personal interest in identifying education-related projects in India, and supporting them through funds and other means.

The New York City/New Jersey chapter of Asha was started in the summer of 1994 by students from Columbia, Rutgers and Yeshiva Universities. Today, the team is comprised of a diverse group of young professionals and students. The chapter has had the privilege of funding and supporting project ranging from all-girl vocational schools, to human rights education camps, to orphanages and alternative education opportunities for communities that would otherwise be isolated.
